Origin of silk

Iyo silk

Due to its quality, Iyo silk handled by UGAAI is used as a material for the imperial family, the current Queen Elizabeth of England, the coronation ceremony, and the Ise Jingu Shrine in Japan.

It is a silk made by spinning cocoons bred in the blessed climate of Ehime prefecture at low speed using a multi-row reeling machine using water originating from the Shikoku mountain range, and has an elegant luster like a white camellia. It has a bulky, fluffy and soft texture. Even among textile companies, Iyo silk has softness and warmth that are generally called texture such as elasticity, elasticity, and swelling.

Okaya silk

Silk from Miyasaka Silk Mill in Okaya

The Miyasaka Silk Mill, which was founded in 1938 in Okaya City, Nagano Prefecture, the birthplace of the modern silk industry in Japan, has inherited traditional methods and has produced a variety of silk. The technology is highly evaluated both in domestic and abroad and sending out many silk products to the world.

UGAAI also uses Expressive silk shantung fabric. The only one and only silk thread that is indispensable for making this fabric is silk with "knots," which is ground from the cocoons of two silkworms. These "knots" give the silk shantung fabric a rustic flavor.

Textile craftsman

Manufacture of silk fabric

Silk, which is unwound from cocoons, is made into silk fabric through various processes (twisting, refining, dyeing, warp, gluing, weaving, organizing, etc.) under the supervision of each specialized craftsman. The delicate and polite Japanese craftsmanship is alive in the work and skills, and it surely inherits the splendor of traditional silk techniques. And while creating innovations that follow the accumulation of that tradition, we will connect the baton to the next generation.
